  1. Make ready 600 ml milk (I use semi-skimmed)
  2. Prepare 1 vanilla pod or 1/2 tbsp vanilla paste
  3. Make ready 3 egg yolks
  4. Make ready 2 tbsp cornflour
  5. Make ready 25 g caster sugar
Instructions to make Vanilla Custard:
  1. Heat the milk and vanilla, until it just comes to the boil.
  2. Whilst the milk is heating up, mix together the yolks, sugar and cornflour, it should look like a smooth paste.
  3. Slowly add the warm milk to the paste & stir well with a whisk.
  4. Put the mixture back in the saucepan and stir constantly with the whisk until the custard thickens.
  5. Top Tip: - On Britain's Best Home Cook I flavoured my custard with orange zest, and Mary Berry loved it, but you could use any flavouring you want, such as lemon zest of vanilla.
