Hey everyone, it is Brad, welcome to our recipe page. Today, I will show you a way to prepare a special dish, basic dhal. It is one of my favorites. This time, I will make it a bit unique. This will be really delicious.

Basic dhal is one of the most favored of recent trending foods in the world. It is simple, it’s quick, it tastes yummy. It’s appreciated by millions daily. They’re fine and they look fantastic. Basic dhal is something which I have loved my entire life.

To get started with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can cook basic dhal using 8 ingredients and 7 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Basic dhal:
  1. Take 300 g lentils
  2. Get 1 red onion
  3. Take 5 cloves garlic
  4. Prepare 1 green chilli
  5. Make ready 1 tsp cumin seeds
  6. Take 1 tsp turmeric
  7. Make ready 1 tsp unidentified spice (if in doubt do garam masala or ground coriander)
  8. Make ready 25 g butter
Instructions to make Basic dhal:
  1. Wash the lentils first, then add to a saucepan with about 1 litre water
  2. Bring to the boil then simmer for about 30 mins. They should break down and absorb the water.
  3. In a frying pan, melt the butter over a medium heat then add the onion and cumin seeds.
  4. After 5 mins the onions should be browned so add the chilli and garlic
  5. Cook for another 5 mins or so then add the spices and turn off the heat.
  6. Once the lentils have thickened to your desired consistency (you might have to add more water if it’s too thick), add the onion mixture to the pan and stir. Take a generous pinch of salt and stir it in. Taste to see if it’s to your liking, if not, add more.
  7. Serve with rice, popadums or chapatti
