The ingredients needed to make Dal makhani:
Make ready 1 cup urad dal
Get 1/4 cup rajma/kidney beans
Get to taste Salt
Take 1 tsp Turmeric powder

Take 1 tsp Coriander powder
Make ready Pinch Hing/asafoetida
Prepare 1 onion
Make ready 1/2 cup tomato puree
Make ready 1 inch ginger
Prepare 7-8 garlic cloves
Prepare 2 chopped green chillies
Make ready 1 tsp kasuri methi
Make ready 1 tbsp pure ghee
Make ready 2 tsp butter
Make ready 1/4 cup Fresh cream for garnishing
Make ready 3 tsp coriander leaves for garnishing
Prepare as needed water
Instructions to make Dal makhani:
Take 1 cup of black urad dal and 1/4 cup of rajma in a large bowl.
Add enough water and soak overnight or at least for 8 hours.
Rinse the dal in a running water and transfer into a cooker. add 3 cups of water. And add salt,turmeric powder, and hing.
Close the lid and pressure cook on medium flame for 5 whistles. or till the dals are cooked completely.
In a large kadai add a tbsp of ghee and butter
Then add onion,ginger, garlic and chili paste saute till they change in colour.
Now add tomatoes puree.
Add turmeric, coriander powder, chilli powder and salt to taste. cook the masalas for a minute.
Once the masalas start releasing oil from sides, add cooked dal and give a good stir.
Boil for 30 minutes or more till the dal absorbs flavour and turns thick.
To get the creamy texture, add 2 tbsp of fresh cream.
Now heat ghee into a pan and add Kashmiri red chilli powder and pour tarka upon on ready dal makhani. And add roast kasuri methi also. Give a good mix to get bright colour and flavour.
Finally, serve dal makhani with jeera rice or naan.
