The ingredients needed to make Methi Masoor ki Dal:
  1. Make ready 1 Cup Masoor Dal/Red Lentils: Washed & Boiled
  2. Make ready 2 tsp or To Taste Salt
  3. Take 1/2 tsp or To Taste Sugar
  4. Take 1Bunch Fresh Methi Leaves- Assorted & Washed well
  5. Make ready 1/4 Cup Fresh Coriander Leaves: Roughly/Finely Chopped
  6. Take 2 Cups Water (RT): To boil the Dal
  7. Get 1/2-1 Cup Water (RT): For Later Use/As Required
  8. Prepare 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  9. Take 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  10. Prepare 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  11. Get 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  12. Take 1 tsp Cumin & Red Chilli Powder: (Roasted)
  13. Make ready 1.5-2 tbsps Butter
  14. Get 1 Onion: Big & Finely Chopped
  15. Take 1 Tomato: Big & Finely Chopped
  16. Make ready 2-3 tbsps Cooking Oil: Any
  17. Make ready 1/4 tsp Hing/Asafoetida
  18. Prepare 1/2 tbsp Fresh Lemon Juice
  19. Get 1/4 Cup Fresh Green Peas: Optional
Instructions to make Methi Masoor ki Dal:
  1. Wash, Clean & Boil the Dal with some salt & turmeric powder & measured water- Once done, muddle it a bit with a muddler- Set Aside…Keep rest other ingredients handy, readily available…Wash, Clean & Assort the Methi Leaves
  2. In a large heavy bottomed pan: Add in the oil, heat up over the medium flame- Goes in the tempering spices, when starts spluttering & releasing fine aroma, add in the chopped onions, sauté until translucent
  3. Add to it, the garlic & ginger- Sauté until the raw smell goes off- Add in the chopped tomatoes & salt, keep stirring gently but continuously, ensuring it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan
  4. Add in some more water to sauté until nicely cooked, add in the Methi Leaves- keep sautéing until well blended & nicely combined
  5. Goes in the boiled dal to it now & mix everything well together until nicely combined & well incorporated- Adjust the required consistency of the dal by adding some more water (if at all needed)
  6. Cover the lid of the pan, lower the flame & cook until well cooked altogether- Finish it up with some freshly chopped coriander leaves, butter & roasted/bhuna masala powder & the lemon juice
  7. Give it all a really good mix finally…Turn off the flame: Let it sit on the oven for about next 10-12 mins time before serving it piping hot with steamed rice or roti/chapati, etc.
